/ o0 v# u1 i, ]$ `4 W# a8 f  Q3 |# h　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

3 o3 y0 M, \1 J/ s* Y) V　　One single white immensity.
. Q. \0 E, B( s1 l/ ~' i
6 R4 @) b/ L( }　　The Yellow River"s swift current

8 c, P0 ]% j! M' k　　Is stilled from end to end.

　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

: T& }! s3 |/ w: a　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

" {$ Y+ m/ u+ t8 n　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

1 q& r' D$ w/ ~' ~# U( q: e　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

" I% ~% S4 r( ?2 N5 L1 S+ k　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

/ B" I! k7 v7 B3 z! Z# S! K　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

7 U8 o% L# }% M　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

* l3 x; ^6 X& }' Y　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men
